It was a Thursday night this time under the lights at Dozier Field, but the short week couldn’t stop the Miners football squad, who rolled to a 49-10 win over regional foe Tooele on senior night. Park City honored its 20-plus seniors with a pregame ceremony, then began to make quick work of their opponents once the kickoff hit the air. The Miners quickly figured out Tooele’s unique, throwback Wing-T offense and its many misdirections in the run game. They had no problem rushing and passing the ball on their side, opening up a 21-0 first quarter lead. Park City expanded that lead to 42-3 heading into the half, prompting a running clock throughout the entire second half. Senior signal caller Bash Bodily flashed some of his track speed in the win, scoring two evasive rushing touchdowns and adding another lengthy touchdown through the air. Running back Eli Warner also had two rushing touchdowns, bringing his season total touchdowns to 20. #25 Brogan Price, sophomore at Park City High School, runs the ball through traffic along the sideline on Thursday. Super proud of those guys.”Montzingo lauded another complete team effort and win. The special teams unit had an early blocked field goal and six made extra points, and the defense had a long pick six from senior Pierce Garner. The Miners defense also scored on a safety last week at Jordan, and twice on a blocked field goal return and another pick six two weeks ago hosting Cottonwood. Montzingo knows he has a well-coached bunch on defense, who want to reach the end zone just like their offensive peers. “I think I got everyone in tonight, which is always great,” added Montzingo on senior night. “That’s always a lot of fun – to get everybody an opportunity to get on a varsity field – and our starters, our core varsity guys, gave us that opportunity, real proud of them.”Senior quarterback Bash Bodily runs the ball in the first half. The Miners entered Thursday night ranked ninth in 4A, with the top eight teams receiving first round playoff byes and second round home field advantages. Springville offers up a big opportunity to climb the computer rankings, them being ranked 14th in the larger classification. “Just feeling good,” added Bodily on the win. “We executed just one play at a time. …Played our game, that’s all it was, we didn’t try to be too much.”Bodily credited his offensive line for aiding his big running game. He smiled when discussing how Montzingo and his staff keep imploring him to use his speed to avoid some unnecessary hits when running. “I love running the football, it’s probably my favorite part of the game,” added Bodily. “Just love it.”“We’re just taking it day-by-day, having a good practice every day. …We want to get a good win at Springville next week to get your RPI (computer ranking system) up.”Bodily said the odd short weeks haven’t bothered the team and that they’ve been practicing extremely well. “It was a lot of fun,” said Garner on the night. “I like being out here balling with the boys my last year, doing the most we can to get back in Rice-Eccles (host site of the playoff semifinals and finals).”Garner feels like the team is right where they want to be heading into the home stretch of the season. He wants to keep playing as long as he can with kids he’s been playing with since elementary school. “I like a little competition,” said Garner heading into the Springville matchup. “Get everyone’s heads on straight this week and just keep grinding.”#2 Pearson Aebischer, senior for the Miners, pushes an opponent from Tooele on Thursday.
