Fontana trainings prepare students for roofing careers

People looking for careers in the roofing industry went to school this week, using tools that included nail guns and hammers.

GAF, a national roofing company, hosted training sessions at its Fontana facility that focused on residential roofing installation and the basics of steep slope roofing.
The GAF Roofing Academy is a tuition-free program for anyone, but it’s especially aimed at underrepresented groups, such as those who were once incarcerated and former military personnel, a news release states.

Graduates will receive certification and the chance to interview with contractors in the area for full-time, entry-level jobs in the roofing field, the release states.
Since 2020, the program has trained more than 3,400, with 2,000 placed into jobs.
