Railroad services suspended this weekend for track work
Oct 10, 2024
Railroad services by Amtrak, the Coaster and BNSF Freight will be suspended all day Saturday between the Oceanside Transit Center and the Santa Fe Depot in downtown San Diego for scheduled track maintenance and construction.
“Full rail closures are routinely scheduled to advance rail construction and ensure worker safety,” states a news release from the San Diego Association of Governments.
Work this weekend will include the ongoing stabilization of the Del Mar bluffs, and pre-construction activities for the Batiquitos Lagoon double-track project. Regular rail service will resume on Sunday.
Crews will install steel beams between 9th and 13th streets and pour concrete to reinforce the existing piles south of 4th Street in Del Mar from Saturday through early Monday. Nearby residents may notice worksite lights and hear noise from loud equipment and drilling.
To ensure safety, SANDAG advised people not to enter the construction zones.
