Photo by Michael Owens/Getty Images Frank Ragnow didn’t get the opportunity to rest and relax during the Detroit Lions’ bye week. He had a game to prepare for. For most NFL players, the bye week is spent relaxing, traveling, or logging quality time with loved ones. Unfortunately for Detroit Lions center Frank Ragnow, he didn’t get to do much of any of those during his team’s Week 5 bye. Just over a week prior to Detroit’s rest, Ragnow suffered a partially torn pectoral muscle against the Arizona Cardinals. Despite thinking that he had torn his pectoral, he played through it and didn’t miss a snap in that game. Following the game, trainers had decided that as much as Ragnow wanted to play in Week 4 against the Seattle Seahawks, it was best to give him a game off. For Ragnow, that didn’t mean resting, relaxing, and healing. No, to recover from a torn pectoral as quickly as Ragnow wanted, it meant a vigorous treatment program that would eat up his next two weeks. “We had to rehab, all kinds of shoulder (exercises) and all kinds of different boring exercises that you kinda strengthen everything and make sure you’re good to go.” So that’s how you spent your bye week? “Unfortunately.” That speaks to both the selflessness for the team and the passion for the game Ragnow possesses. Coach Dan Campbell has already told a story that’s gone viral about how Ragnow punched him against the wall to show how healthy his pectoral muscle was—a story that Ragnow was clearly a little bashful to talk about to reporters. “I was just trying to demonstrate that I was okay. That’s it,” Ragnow said. As for how he’s currently feeling, Ragnow clearly didn’t want to get into specifics. He noted that it was “good enough, baby.” And when asked if it’s something that he’ll just have to deal with this season, he avoided answering directly with an, “It’s all good.” What is clear, though, is Ragnow is fully intending on playing this week, and that’s something both his quarterback and head coach have come to expect. “He’s a super healer, he really is,” Jared Goff told 97.1 The Ticket this week. “He’s a freak of nature. It’s really impressive to watch him put himself through stuff like that and then come back so quickly.” “This guy, he’s as throwback as they get,” Campbell said. “He will play through any injury and he will will himself to go.”
