The Detroit Lions were back on the practice field on Thursday, as they prepared to take on the Dallas Cowboys in Week 6. For the second day in a row, the Lions are feeling the benefits of a bye week and held a fully attended practice, although there was one significant change. Let’s take a closer look, noting that any changes from Wednesday’s report will be bolded. No practice None Limited practice S Kerby Joseph (hamstring) — Downgraded from a full practice Joseph is on the injury report for the third week this season. He’s also dealt with a back injury earlier in the year. He was also dealing with a hamstring issue in Week 2 but ended up playing. During the open portion of Thursday’s practice, Joseph was not spotted during individual drills, but this could just be a day of mild rest so that he’s ready to go on Sunday. We’ll likely know more about Joseph’s condition on Friday. Full practice C Frank Ragnow (pec) G Christian Mahogany (illness) — Still on NFI list (Evaluation days remaining: 18) S Brian Branch (illness) Ragnow has been dealing with a partially torn pectoral, but as he tends to do, is healing remarkably faster than expected. In addition to already getting in two full practices this week, Ragnow is taking other unorthodox methods of proving his strength to coach Dan Campbell. Dan Campbell said he was walking thru facility last wk when out of nowhere "someone punches me against the wall, then I get punched again and I realize that it's Frank trying to show me that his pec is great. That's his way of telling me, 'Look how strong I am, it's good.'"— Will Burchfield (@burchie_kid) October 9, 2024 Mahogany is currently working his way through the injury evaluation process and will remain on the NFI list until the Lions feel he is ready to contribute further or needs to be shut down for the season. “We just need to see this improvement from him and then we’ll assess it after that,” Campbell said of Mahogany’s status. “But I think if he shows that he’s just taking these steady steps it may be hard not to want to put him on the roster.” Branch suffered a concussion in Week 3, and while he cleared the NFL’s protocol, an illness kept him from contributing in Week 4. With the bye week to aid in his recovery and two full practices under his belt, he looks to be in a good spot to return to action this week. Cowboys' Thursday injury report Full practice: OT Tyler Guyton (knee) LB Marist Liufau (quad) CB DaRon Bland (foot, returned to practice, still on IR) CB Caelen Carson (shoulder) S Malik Hooker (neck) — new to injury report S Markquese Bell (illness) — upgraded from no practice Did not practice: G Zack Martin (rest/back) — added back injury to designation EDGE Micah Parsons (ankle) LB Nick Vigil (foot) LB Eric Kendricks (calf/shoulder) CB Trevon Diggs (ankle/illness) — downgrade from full to no practice
