SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- The Blue Angels could be seen and most definitely, heard, practicing over San Francisco on Thursday ahead of the Fleet Week Air Show. The show, which is the crown jewel of San Francisco Fleet Week, kicks off on Friday and the iconic Blue Angels are, as usual, the headlining act. But this being San Francisco, the question as always is, will skies over the city and the Bay be clear enough to see the Blue Angels? Two years ago, the Fleet Week Air Show was canceled on Sunday due to weather conditions. So, what will conditions be like this year for the Fleet Week Air Show, which is scheduled to run Friday, Saturday and Sunday? Here's what KRON4 Meteorologist Kyla Grogan had to say about our Fleet Week forecast heading into Friday. Fleet Week San Francisco 2024 schedule, events what you need to know "It's time for the Blue Angels! And the question is always will the weather be on our side?" said Grogan. "Since our cooldown started this week, we've seen the return of our marine layer and some high clouds and that will also be the case as we head into the weekend." According to Grogan, the best day to watch the air show may be Friday. "I expect Friday afternoon to be the best shot at sunny skies for the air show," she said. "Starting late Friday, we have some clouds that will move in as a weak front tracks through the Bay Area."  According to the National Weather Service, a weak cold front moving in on Saturday could bring a good chance for light rain. "That means that by Saturday morning, we will be dealing with some cloudy weather, and we even have a slight chance of a few sprinkles in San Francisco as the front passes us by," Grogan added. The good news, according to Grogan, is that by Sunday conditions for viewing the Blue Angels and the air show should improve. "Sunday looks a bit better as we should get some afternoon clearing once the front tracks through," she said. "Temperatures this weekend in San Francisco will top out between 68 to 71 degrees, so if you are headed out for the show a light jacket is not a bad idea." The Blue Angels also have three different versions of their show rehearsed. This means they can change the format based on the weather, flying higher above the clouds if necessary.
