(KRON) -- Video captured by a KRON4 anchor showed a car that had smashed through a fence and gone into a swimming pool Thursday. The driver, a woman in her 70s, mistakenly hit the gas, according to the Tiburon Police Department. In the video, the vehicle, which was described as a compact SUV, can be seen resting at the bottom of the pool, which belonged to an apartment complex at 11 Janet Way in Tiburon. Tiburon PD said it was first alerted to the incident around 9:49 a.m. to assist the fire department with the scene. A tow truck was on the scene and first responders can be seen along with two truck personnel at the side of the pool. Gregg Morgan, who lives at the apartment complex, heard the commotion. "I heard a loud crash, and I came out my door and looks like the new manager is yelling," said Morgan. "I saw a car in the pool, and I yelled to her, 'is there somebody in the car?' And she said, 'I don't know,' so I walked over to the edge and saw the woman in the car." That's when he rushed to help the driver. "The car was sinking, and she was lucky to undo her seatbelt and also to open up her windows," he said. "I reached for her, I couldn't get her at first, she said maybe I should go to the other side. I said, 'stay with me.' I opened the door and the car sank very, very fast. I had a mini panic and said I'm just going to grab her." According to the Tiburon Police Department, the driver of the vehicle was not injured in the crash and was able to extricate herself. There was no one else in the car and no one was injured in the crash. The driver is now at home did not need medical attention. The apartment manager told KRON4 that the pool is now closed and will have to be drained, as gasoline and chemicals may have leaked into it.
