LOUISVILLE, Ky. (KSNW) - Ava Jones testified on Thursday against the man who was charged with hitting her and her family. Trey, her father, died as a result of injuries. It happened back in 2022 when a car crashed into them in downtown Louisville while the family was attending a basketball tournament. Michael Hurley was arrested and charged with murder, assault, and driving under the influence as a result. Ava is now a sophomore at the University of Iowa. Jones had just signed a basketball scholarship to attend the university when she was hit. On the stand, she told members of the jury how the crash had changed her. "I suffered traumatic brain injury on the left side of my brain, which makes my right side of my body lag and slow, uncoordinated, so when I write, I can't write with my right hand because it takes a long time," she said. 3.5 magnitude earthquake reported in central Kansas Ava talked about how that injury caused her to be unable to shoot a basketball. She also testified that her vision was impacted and that she had to wear glasses because of an orbital eye fracture. Ava has since retired from basketball after advice from team doctors and athletic trainers.
