Crews put out fire on Route 20 in West Springfield

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Crews worked to put out a fire on Route 20 in West Springfield Thursday afternoon.

According to West Springfield Fire Lieutenant Spear, the fire was located at 701 Westfield Street which is along Route 20 in West Springfield. Just before 1 p.m., crews arrived to find fire and smoke visible on both sides of the structure.
Firefighters quickly located the source of the fire and successfully knocked it down using multiple lines. Both a primary and secondary search of the building was conducted, with all residents safely evacuated.

While no residents were injured in the fire, three cats were rescued from the home and are reported to have survived. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the West Springfield Fire Department’s Fire Investigation Unit (FIU) in collaboration with the West Springfield Police Department.
No injuries were reported among firefighters or residents.
