LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- Former Transylvania women’s basketball standout Dasia Thornton is heading to Albania to become a professional basketball player. Partizani Women’s Club is where the former Pioneer will go as she becomes the first ever former Transy player to go pro. “Dasia’s journey from Clark Montessori to an All-American at Transy and now pursuing her dream of playing professionally overseas is a testament to her love for the game. Her passion for exploring new places and embracing diverse experiences makes this next chapter even more exciting. TUWBX is incredibly proud of her as she takes on this new adventure!” said Women’s Basketball Head Coach Hannah Varel. Who are Partizani? Based in Tirana, Albania, the team is one of the top outfits in the country. Partizani was a league finalist in 2021, 2022 and 2023. They have also been runners up three times since 2020. In 2021, Partizani won the Albanian Cup after being finalists in 2020, 2022 and 2023. Last season, the team reached the Albanian League Semi-Finals. Decorated Dasia Thornton is one of the most decorated athletes to set foot on Transy’s campus. She is a 2023 National Champion with the Pios and is a 2024 First Team All-American She is the second player in program history to reach 1,000 points and rebounds.
