HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. -- An investigation is underway after an inmate at the Hancock County Jail died following a medical emergency Thursday morning. According to the Hancock County Sheriff's Department, jail officers responded around 6:47 a.m. to a medical emergency in a single-person cell that was housing 52-year-old Joe Willie Davis. David was found unresponsive inside the cell when officers arrived. Davis could not be revived despite the application of life-saving measures and was pronounced dead at 7:33 a.m. Davis had been incarcerated since Oct. 7. The investigation into the circumstances of the death will continue as an autopsy is set to be performed in the coming days. HCSD emphasized that there is no suspicion of foul play surrounding the death at this time.
