(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — If you've been wondering where the rain is lately, you're not alone. It's been weeks now since the region has seen any meaningful rainful. Colorado Springs saw a grand total of five days with more than a trace of precipitation. Sept. 5 had the most rainfall with 0.30 inches reported. The last day in September with more than a trace of rainfall reported was Sept. 22. That means, as of Thursday, it has been 18 days without anything more than a few sprinkles. The city was well below average for total precipitation with 0.87 inches reported for the month. For Pueblo, the area saw slightly above normal amounts of precipitation for the month despite the low number of days reporting precipitation. Like Colorado Springs, the city only had five days of precipitation measuring more than a trace. There were 0.25 inches of precipitation measured on Sept. 17 for Pueblo. As far as temperatures go, there are a few different highlights for the Springs area. The city had its 8th warmest September on record with average temperatures nearly 4 degrees above normal. The average high temperature for the month was 81.7 degrees which was nearly 5 degrees above normal for the month. Also, Colorado Springs had its latest 90 degree day on record with 91 being reported on Sept. 30. The previous latest 90 degree day was on September 25. Pueblo also experienced a very warm September. The city had its 15th warmest September on record with two days of record breaking heat. The average high temperature for the month was 87.3, which is roughly 4 degrees above normal. Precipitation was about average for September. Drought continues to build in Southern Colorado as the region starts to feel the impacts of the lack of rain. Portions of El Paso and Teller county are now in severe drought. The Eastern Plains are also seeing an expansion of severe drought near the Kansas border. Based off of latest model guidance, it looks like rain chances are still going to be tricky to come by. Early indications for rain are pointing at sometime next week.
