(COLORADO SPRINGS) — This Thursday, Oct. 10, a graduation ceremony will take place at the Terry R. Harris Judicial Complex, honoring 12 remarkable individuals who have successfully completed the 4th Judicial District Recovery "Drug" Court. This program, launched in January 2001, stands as Colorado’s second drug problem-solving court, making strides in supporting those facing substance use challenges. These graduates have shown incredible dedication on their recovery journeys, overcoming significant hurdles. The Recovery "Drug" Court is not just a program; it's a transformative experience designed for individuals who have interacted with the criminal justice system due to substance use. Participants engage in intensive treatment, maintain sobriety, and work toward educational and employment goals—demonstrating their commitment every step of the way. El Paso County District Magistrate Gregory K. Duncan, who will preside over the ceremony, couldn’t be prouder. "We are honored and excited to celebrate the graduation of 12 amazing individuals from the Recovery 'Drug' Court program," he said. "Over the past two-plus years, these graduates have established and maintained sobriety, becoming law-abiding, self-sufficient, and productive community members. Through their tireless dedication to recovery, they have forever changed the lives of their children, families, and our community." Modeled after evidence-based problem-solving drug courts, the 4th Judicial District Recovery "Drug" Court offers a comprehensive approach to treatment. By diverting nonviolent, substance-abusing felony offenders into a structured, supportive environment, participants receive judicial oversight, regular urinalysis, and case management that includes referrals for employment and education. This program has become an essential lifeline for many, fostering strong relationships between participants and the dedicated drug court team. With unwavering support, encouragement, and accountability, the team helps individuals reclaim their lives and build a brighter future.
