Credit: Andrew Leyden Credit: Andrew Leyden The university said it would launch an investigation of the incident, adding that it will "hold those responsible for this disgraceful act accountable." The university also added that conduct actions will be taken for any AU community member involved in this incident as well as possible applicable criminal charges. Husband of missing Manassas Park mother Mamta Kafle Bhatt back in court American University President Jonathan R. Alger said this in a message to the AU community: Expressing and advocating for deeply held beliefs is a core element of who we are as individuals and as a community. But when that advocacy becomes destructive, when it is expressed through behavior that violates our policies, laws, and values, it hurts our community. It creates distrust and discord when we are seeking to build connection and common bonds. Even on the most polarizing of issues on which members of the university community might disagree vigorously, engagement must be constructive and lawful.Glover Gate is both the front door to our university and a symbol for the AU community. It welcomes students when they first arrive on campus and is the site of countless graduation photos and cherished memories. We are cleaning and restoring Glover Gate, and it will continue to serve and inspire our community. I encourage everyone to reflect on this moment and look for ways to bridge differences and support the welcoming and inclusive AU community that is so important to us all. Statement from American University President Jonathan R. Alger The university is asking anyone with information on the people behind the graffiti to reach out to AUPD at 202-885-2999.
