SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- The Blue Angels are in town and will soon be roaring overhead as Fleet Week kicks into full gear. The iconic demonstration team will soon be taking to the skies in their F/A-18 Super Hornets to headline the annual Fleet Week Air Show. When do the Blue Angels practice? The Blue Angels Team will be conducting practice flights on Thursday, Oct. 10 between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. During their stay in the Bay Area, the Blue Angels will be based across the Bay at San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport. The Blue Angels practice flights will be taking off from the airport's north field and departing from runways 28L/28R. The team will be using the same runways to take off from during the air show on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Residents near the departure end of the runway will "experience an increased level of noise," according to the airport. Blue Angels Fleet Week Air Show schedule The Blue Angels will headline the Fleet Week Air Show on Friday, Saturday and Sunday this week. What time do the Blue Angels fly in San Franciso? The Fleet Week Air Show kicks off daily at 11 a.m. and goes until 5 p.m. The Blue Angels typically fly around 3 p.m. Practice flights will begin around 1 p.m. Thursday. Tickets are available here. The SF Bay Ferry will also be running a special scenic trip from Richmond for passengers who want to see the Blue Angels. The ferry will depart Richmond Ferry Terminal at 3 p.m. and "take a more leisurely route" to the Downtown SF Ferry Terminal to provide passengers with views of the air show from the Bay. About the Blue Angels Now in their 78th year, the Blue Angels have been around since 1946. Currently, there are 158 active-duty U.S. Sailors and Marines serving as part of the Blue Angels. The elite fighter demonstration squadron and their trademark close-knit formations have been part of SF Fleet Week since it was first initiated by then San Francisco Mayor Dianne Feinstein back in 1981.
