Oct 10, 2024
CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - A strong solar storm is set to impact the Earth Thursday night which could allow us here in western Massachusetts to see the northern lights.
The last major solar storm that allowed us to see the northern lights in western Massachusetts was back on May 10th and if you missed it, you may have another chance to see them Thursday night.
Massachusetts could see northern lights Thursday thanks to ‘severe’ geomagnetic storm
Skies look to stay clear as a high-impact solar storm will impact the Earth with the best chance of seeing the northern lights being around or after midnight. The moon will set at 11:22 p.m. and if you get away from city or town lights and look north you might have a chance to see the rare astronomical phenomenon.
While the northern lights will likely look faint to the naked eye, if you use your phone camera with high exposure you will have a better chance to see them and of course take good pictures.
