Search ongoing for ACI inmate who walked off work detail

CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — An inmate at the Adult Correctional Institutions (ACI) walked off of a work detail Thursday morning, 12 News has learned.
"An inmate from Minimum Security was working outside and walked away (absconded) from his job assignment earlier this morning," J.R. Ventura, a spokesperson for the R.I. Department of Corrections, told 12 News. "The matter is under investigation by the ACI’s Investigative Unit."

The inmate, 26-year-old Joshua Torres, left his work detail at the Central Distribution Center warehouse and was not back in custody as of Thursday afternoon.
Cranston police said they were notified around 9 a.m. and are now searching the city.
According to court records dating back to 2016, Torres has previously been charged with burglary, first-degree robbery and kidnapping, among other crimes.
