Seymour woman struck by train after resting on tracks

SEYMOUR, Ind. — A woman was struck by a train after resting on the tracks in Seymour, according to law enforcement.
The Seymour Police Department was dispatched to the O’Brien St. and Reliance Ave. area on Tuesday at approximately 10:47 p.m. on a report of a woman being struck by a CSX locomotive.
Upon arrival to the scene, officers found a female who had sustained injuries to her head, right arm, and right leg. She was provided medical care by first responders and flown to a hospital in Indianapolis.
According to the train conductor, the woman was lying on the tracks, and the train’s horn was used to alert her. The woman raised up and then laid back down. However, when she realized the train was coming, she got up and attempted to escape but was struck by the train.
The victim was identified as 62-year-old Terre Newport of Seymour. It is unclear at this time why she was on the tracks.
