GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - Goats are joining the efforts of dozens of sheep already grazing Green Bay's Renard Island to help with vegetation growth, bringing the total number of animals on the island to over 100. Back in May, officials with the Port of Green Bay announced a unique and cost-effective method to manage the vegetation on Renard Island through a contract with Wooly Green Grazers of Appleton to have sheep graze the island during the growing season. The Reinforcements? Goats. The addition of the goats brings the total of animals on the island to over 100. Officials say they have been working in a 'mob grazing process,' to create a renewed success. The Wooly Green Grazers have seamlessly adapted to effectively graze the island. The sheep and goats offer a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to mechanical mowing. They have covered a lot of ground over the past few months and have been successful in managing the island’s vegetation.
