FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Breast cancer is the second most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death for women in the United States according to the Centers for Disease and Control. With it being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a Fort Wayne business has teamed up with Francine's Friends Mobile Mammography and Parkview Health to provide breast cancer screenings performed by professionals with the Breast Diagnostic Center. The screenings will take place Friday, October 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the MacFood Mart located at the northwest corner of the West Washington Center Road and Goshen Road intersection in Fort Wayne. MacFood Mart is selling Breast Cancer Awareness car ribbon magnets The Francine's Friends mobile unit provides mammograms in about 15 minutes. Women over 35, whether insured or uninsured, are welcome. Insured women will be billed directly, while uninsured women can get a reduced rate for same-day payment and funding assistance is available. MacFood Mart is also raising money for Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana through the sale of Breast Cancer Awareness car ribbon magnets at all four of its locations for $2. All proceeds will benefit Cancer Services. “Last year, our customers strongly supported Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana,” said Ray McIntosh, President and owner of McIntosh Energy. “We’re thrilled to continue this fundraiser in 2024 to help ‘fuel the fight’ and support their work in providing vital care and services to the community.” Also, from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, the Goshen Road MacFood Mart will be dropping the price of regular unleaded gas by 50 cents a gallon During that two hours, motorists can get up to 20 gallons of fuel at the discounted rate.
