Local restaurant to visit Hurricane Helene victims
Oct 10, 2024
(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Purple Onion is preparing to pack up and drive to North Carolina on Monday, Oct. 14 to help those impacted by Hurricane Helene.
The restaurant has been collecting donations of food and money, however, Manager Linda Jamison says they haven't been able to collect many contributions. She's purchased some items to donate with her money and hopes to help the community in North Carolina however she can.
Jamison says donations such as water, blankets, sleeping bags, toilet paper, grills, charcoal, or generators are especially helpful during emergencies.
Through the weekend, she will be selling baked goods at the restaurant to raise additional funds.
Owner of the Turkish restaurant, Erdal Bengogullari, says the Colorado Springs community supported him and his family when 18 of his relatives were killed in a Turkey earthquake last year. Now, he hopes to give back with this fundraiser and help others in need.
The Purple Onion is located at 1840 North Academy Boulevard, Colorado Springs, CO 80909.
