BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) - The Gonzales Police Department made an arrest in connection with a shooting that left one person dead on Thursday, Oct. 10. Cortez Lentroy Downs, 19, of Donaldsonville, was charged with one count of second-degree murder. An 18-year-old woman from Donaldsonville was killed in the shooting which took place in the 200 block of W. Manfred St. Officers were called to the scene around 2:20 a.m. and found that the woman had been shot one time. "Despite medical attention, she was pronounced deceased at the scene," GPD said. They said, "The incident occurred while both individuals were visiting a residence in Gonzales." Downs was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail on Thursday, Oct. 10.
