Although no one was injured, the loss is still immense. 3 homes catch fire in Coalinga: ‘Please avoid the area’ “Just realize how delicate life is,” said Raymon Devine, a neighbor. Devine was in his home when he noticed something wasn't right across the street. “I heard a couple of little explosions and I thought it was gunshots or something, I was like 'Okay, what was that?' No sooner than that, my son runs out and he’s like 'Hey, the house across the street is on fire,'” Devine said. Five different fire crews, including Fresno County Fire and Coalinga Fire, had to be called to battle a fire that had engulfed three homes near Coolidge Street and Hayes Street.  “There was heavy fire from the middle house coming from the garage. It quickly extended into the adjacent residence. Shortly after that, the first fire apparatus arrived on scene and got water on the fire pretty quickly. And when I looked over, I noticed a third house was on fire,” Coalinga Fire Chief Greg DuPuis said. It’s unclear what started the fire.  “PD advised me that they had accountability for everyone and everyone was out of the house safely,” Fire Chief DuPuis said. Three homes are damaged and the families now have to find a place to stay. The Red Cross was also on the scene helping residents impacted by the fire. One resident had to be taken to the hospital after the fact due to stress.  “My wife was actually helping the lady that lived here because she had a seizure or something. While this was going on. She was so upset, and my wife comforted her until the ambulance came and got her,” Devine said. Neighbors called this fire "traumatic". “I went and talked to my kids about, you know, like it makes me nervous as a parent, like, 'Oh, don't be playing with plugs.' Don't be, you know, playing with like, you know, me playing with any kind of fire because this is the result,” Devine said. Devine has lived in this community for nine years and said he has never experienced a fire like this.  “Not anything that spread like that. It spread fast and it was raging in no time,” Devine said The Coalinga community is rallying behind the three families displaced by the fire. Their neighbors said that they are collecting money, food, clothes and all other donations at Chapel Grace Church.
