Forget chain coffeehouses – Pittsburgh has tons of local coffee shops with diverse bean blends, flavors and roasts. In fact, we have the most coffee shops per capita of the 100 largest U.S. cities, according to a WalletHub study. Next week, coffee takes the spotlight in the Burgh.For its 10th anniversary, Pittsburgh Coffee Week is showcasing specialty coffee drinks and events around the region from Oct. 13 through Oct. 19. Unless you have a serious caffeine addiction, it’s unlikely you’ll be able to try all of these specials. So I did the work for you. Brooklyn Bagel at Arsenal in Lawrenceville offers a combination of fall flavors that is different from the traditional caramel, apple or pumpkin. The Iced Fig & Vanilla Cortado with Rosemary Cold Foam features homemade fig syrup. All ingredients are locally sourced, including the beans from RedHawk Coffee. You can find it during coffee week and seasonally while supplies last.With locations in the South Side and Shadyside, Delanie’s Coffee serves a Popcorn Latte garnished with actual popcorn. This drink has intense salty caramel flavors similar to a caramel macchiato. Get it hot or iced at both locations all season.White Tree Cafe & Coffeehouse in Irwin (about 30 minutes from Downtown) has a White Chocolate Churro Mocha for Pittsburgh Coffee Week and all October long. This customer favorite from last season is served hot or iced, with rich creaminess from the milk blending with cinnamon and white chocolate. Boujee Pumpkin Pie served at Brother Andre’s in Oakland. Photo courtesy of Pittsburgh Coffee Week.Brother Andre’s Cafe in Oakland offers a Boujee Pumpkin Pie Cold Brew. What makes this drink different is how the beans are prepared. They are ground fine, similar to espresso, then sprayed with water instead of steeped. The Boujee Pumpkin Pie Cold Brew is available until Thanksgiving.Press House in Sewickley offers a Pumpkin Pie Cold Foam Iced Americano during the fall. With an immediate pumpkin punch, this drink elevates a seasonal latte. Made with their espresso blend and homemade cold foam, this drink is decidedly less sweet than the usual seasonal drinks offered at many chains. Press House will host a Coffee Class on Oct. 17 from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., where you can taste different flavors and learn about processing styles of coffee blends; registration is available online. Additional drinks available for Pittsburgh Coffee Week include espresso tonics from Margaux, LA Prima and Commonplace Coffee, Vanilla Cold Foam Chai from Happenstance, a Sweet Potato Latte from PAIR and a Maple Cream Cold Brew from Bitty & Beau’s. Smashed Waffles will host a “Robot” Espresso Workshop, allowing guests to brew and taste coffee from a robot barista, Eversys, on Oct. 17 from 6 until 8 p.m. Commonplace Coffee in Rockwell Park will have a Latte Art Throwdown and Vendor Market on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m. Don’t miss the Barista Reading at White Whale Books in Bloomfield, Game Nights at Merchant Coffee, Dragon’s Roast Cafe and more. Pittsburgh Coffee Week begins Sunday, Oct. 13, and runs until Saturday, Oct. 19.
