Central Ohio Weather and Radar COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — An eruption of solar material and magnetic fields is heading towards earth. The Space Weather Prediction Center predicts this to impact Earth by Thursday, and with it, the potential for a geomagnetic storm. This is the recipe for another view of the northern lights. It has been a fairly active year for solar storms. Because of them, central Ohio has had many previous opportunities to see the northern lights this year. This will be one more chance for those who have yet to see it. Thursday will see the next chances to see the aurora borealis or northern lights across much of the northern United States. Here in Ohio it will be possible to see them along the horizon. Moving closer to Lake Erie and beyond would increase the ability to see them overhead. The forecast Thursday night will favor viewing conditions. Crystal clear skies are expected as most of Ohio continues its cloudless stretch of weather. Temperatures will still be fairly chilly. The air in Central Ohio will eventually cool down to the lower 40s.
