Vance is just a Trump wolf in sheep’s clothing Brooklyn: Re “The futility of the Walz/Vance nice guy debate” (column, Oct. 4): While I usually agree with S.E. Cupp, even though we have different political party affiliations, I do agree with most of what she wrote re the vice presidential candidates’ debate. While it should have been an opportunity for voters to learn about their policies and get to know both candidates, that was all but impossible for the usual reason when it comes to MAGA: JD Vance lied multiple times. No surprise here, but for those who don’t know anything about him, he came off as so sincere and honest. Too bad that most of it wasn’t true! Anyone who isn’t MAGA knows very well not to trust them, and to insist on real-time fact-checking. I realize that would probably double the time allotted for the debate, but it is seriously necessary. Vance tried too hard to convince viewers he is just like them. He isn’t. He spent most of his precious time trying to defend and stump for demon-spawn Donny. And the major take-away: no response when asked multiple times if he believed President Biden won the 2020 election. That says it all! Tim Walz is the real deal. Don’t believe Couch Boy’s lies (yes, I know the story was debunked, but it is still hysterical and I’m not so sure there isn’t some truth to it). We can do better. We must do better! We’re not going back. Vote blue! Susan Cassano False claims Brooklyn: Voicer Robert Brennan repeats the conspiracy theory that the federal government’s response to Hurricane Helene was lacking and that FEMA funds were diverted to immigrants. This is blatantly untrue. The governors and emergency relief personnel on the ground have said so. Not only was the federal government accessible and responsive, but FEMA was on the ground with them days before the storm hit. I understand you’re trying to be impartial by printing more pro-Trump opinions. That’s fine. What isn’t fine is printing proven lies that can have serious consequences. It negates the journalistic integrity you’re trying to achieve. Ilsa Ruthen Eugenicist Ashburn, Va.: It seems that Donald Trump is going off the rails in his fear-mongering about immigrants, including legal ones from Haiti. Not content to slander Latinos by falsely ranting that Haitians are eating their neighbors’ dogs and cats in Ohio, he’s now claiming that many immigrants have “bad genes,” which he previously warned are “poisoning the blood of our country.” During a recent interview with conservative commentator Hugh Hewitt, Trump declared that thousands of undocumented immigrants are murderers, “many of them murdered far more than one person.” Trump continued, “A murderer — I believe this — it’s in their genes. And we got a lot of bad genes in our country right now.” It remains to be seen how many of those Latino voters, presumably with the same “bad genes,” will vote for Trump next month. It’s a nice gesture to help many college students get out of school without debt, but who’s paying for this? Also, is this retroactive? I had a student loan and paid mine off. It took me two years after I got married! Like millions of other former college students, I want to know if we can have our past loans excused and be reimbursed for them! I graduated in 1977! Is this a problem? Let me know, Mr. Biden. What he’s requesting is just another Democratic ploy to try and buy votes! It’s been knocked down by two judges so far and probably will never pass. If he wants to do something more realistic, maybe reduce loan rates. It would still help and not make all of us who struggled in the past to pay off our loans feel like we are being neglected and probably paying for loans again with increased taxes! It was Trump, not Biden, who negotiated the pullout of American troops from Afghanistan. He made sure to divest himself of any consequences. I do respect your right to express your political opinions as well as those whose opinions are in opposition to your own. However, to attack the individual for expressing that opposing view is contrary to our American values, and in extreme cases leads to tyranny. I welcome “Mr. Jones” and “Ms. Smith” expressing differing political views. They have the right to critique an opposing view. I do have difficulty with Mr. Jones and Ms. Smith excoriating the other as an individual for merely expressing their views. These reciprocal attacks illustrate an eye-for-an-eye methodology, which, in the words of the great Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., leaves everybody blind. Carmine E. Planned Parenthood gets millions from the Biden administration and then gives funds back to their candidate. Doctors make money from abortions and referrals even by telling some women who want a baby that their fetus should be aborted because of issues. Many women may have birth issues because they had a previous abortion. We live a short life only to spend eternity in Heaven or Hell based on following God’s laws. Where will you spend it?
