WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- The National Capital and Greater Chesapeake Region is sending two large vehicles to Florida to help in the wake of two significant hurricanes. Hurricane Milton is following in the wake of Hurricane Helene, which battered many of the same communities that Milton is headed toward now. Two command and control vehicles will head out from Gaithersburg, Md. on Thursday -- the "Red Wolf" and the "Rollin Nolan." ‘You are going to die’: Tampa mayor warns against ignoring Milton evacuation orders The Red Cross said that the Red Wolf is a mobile command and control center that is around 40 feet long and has specialized capabilities. It has two masts that can hold antennae and cameras -- one is around 50 feet when fully extended, and another is around 20 feet. The Rollin Nolan is around 30 feet long and "can be reconfigured for a variety of uses," the Red Cross said. "This flexibility is key in large-scale operations to allow the Red Cross to better serve local communities," a news release said. Officials said that this is the first time these two vehicles have been deployed to Florida to support relief operations.
