CLOVIS, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Clovis Community College is introducing its new Applied Technology Building, offering hands-on equipment to take education to the next level.   For the first time, Clovis Community College is bringing state-of-the-art programs and lab spaces to students looking to pursue their careers, including occupational therapy, computer, labs engineering, and a digital and music recording studio at their new Applied Technology Building.  "Even with Kendrick Lamar and Pharrell Williams working from a laptop in their living room, that music eventually lands in a room like this before it's released to the public. So, students get to see the entire journey from that very creative process in their home studio to what is a really professional final stage mixing and mastering room," Max Hembd, academic senate president, and music instructor said.  Hembd attended Clovis Community College and wants students to have more opportunities that he did not receive.  "Coming back to have the support of our administration and our local community to make something like this happen really feels full circle for me, that this area, my hometown, which I love, has incredible opportunities for the next generation of students and they don't have to leave," Hembd said.  Anthony Drinnell Walker Jr., a freshman at Clovis Community and the first student to test out the new music recording studio says he is looking to take his passion to the next level. "I'm very fortunate and blessed to be around a community that has a studio like this, especially coming right out of high school," Walker Jr. said.  He also hopes to use the new building's technology to grow as an artist. "I can't just walk into a studio not knowing how to do anything, you know, especially when I want to continue my career as an artist. So Max is most definitely helping us. People like me, you know, get started," Walker Jr. said.  Dr. Carol Goldsmith, Chancellor for the State Center Community College District Area 6, says the possibilities are endless. "It is truly a phenomenal space and we're so grateful for the voters who believe in our students because we know that they can achieve. We know that they can achieve their divine-inspired careers and they can do it right here at Clovis Community College," Goldsmith said. Dual-enrollment high school students will also be able to earn college credits at the Applied Technology Building.
