FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - With less than 90 days left of 2024, this year has seen many Fresno-area restaurants and eateries permanently closing down. Some of the closures have been due to changes to nearby buildings, some have cited lease issues, and some due to what the operator says is the growing difficulty of maintaining the business. While some of the Fresno-area eateries have provided reasons for their closure, others did not publicize why their business is shutting down. Below is a list of businesses that sold food (including restaurants, bars, fast food outlets and a cookie store) formally operating in the Fresno-Clovis metropolitan area that YourCentralValley.com has reported on closing in 2024. TGI Fridays TGI Fridays at Herndon Avenue and First Street in Fresno closed abruptly on Jan. 2, 2024, describing it as a "difficult decision" and expressing gratitude to their customers. The restaurant had been operating in Fresno for over 40 years and its closure sparked a frenzy of interest from people eager to collect what the restaurant was not using anymore. Sno-White Drive-In The operator of Sno-White Drive-In announced on social media on Jan. 31 that the popular Fresno County drive-in had closed following the owners' retirement. In their announcement on social media, they wrote that they are "finally able to retire" after working at the outlet for 45 years. A new restaurant has since moved into its former location in Tarpey Village, which is close to the City of Clovis at Clovis Avenue and Ashlan Avenue. Shanghai Chinese Cuisine Shanghai Chinese Cuisine announced its closure in February. The owner cited hard financial times at the Fresno location forcing them to make the move. However, the community's response to that prompted the restaurant to push back its original closing day to be able to thank all its customers. Thanks to my family, thanks to my friends for all the years of support. There’s a lot of memories for me at this restaurant. Shanghai Chinese Cuisine's Pauline Dunn When the restaurant's closure was announced, owner Pauline Dunn suggested finding a new location to continue the business. Bobby Salazar's (Blackstone Avenue and Michigan Avenue) Bobby Salazar's on Blackstone Avenue and Michigan Avenue in Fresno closed following what Fresno Fire described as a suspicious fire at the location in April. As of October, there are no signs that the business has resumed operations: the restaurant's phone number has been disconnected and wooden boards remain on the windows. Lucky's Donut House Lucky’s Donut House at 3216 N. West Avenue in Fresno announced its closure on May 19, with its final day of operations being May 27. YourCentralValley.com visited the location at 902 Clovis Avenue and discovered the sign confirming the location’s closure. Crave Cookie (Fresno location) Crave Cookie at 6525 N. Riverside Drive in Fresno cited "lease disagreements" as the reason for its closure in September. The cookie store celebrated the event with a "grand closing" ceremony. The Crave Cookie location in Clovis remains open. Starving Artists Bistro Starving Artists Bistro announced on social media that its location near the intersection of Fort Washington Road and Friant Road in northeast Fresno closed in September. DiCicco’s Italian Restaurant (First Street and Shaw Avenue) A sign on the door of DiCicco’s Italian Restaurant at First Street and Shaw Avenue announced in October that the location had closed after 40 years. The operators wrote that they were devastated to have had to make the decision to shut the location, adding "we are sorry to have had this turn of economy."
