FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - The Fresno Police Department has identified the victim who died following a shooting outside a restaurant in Fresno on Tuesday. Officers also named the suspect involved. The victim has been identified by police as 29-year-old Harmanpreet Singh. 29-year-old Harmanpreet Singh (image provided by Fresno Police) Man dead, 1 arrested after shooting at event center in Fresno Police say just before 8 p.m. on Tuesday, officers responded to a report of gunfire outside a restaurant and bar, located in the area of Ashlan and West Avenues. According to police, as officers were arriving, 28-year-old Lovepreet Singh called 911, saying he had been involved in a disturbance at the restaurant and had fired a gun. Lovepreet indicated to officers his intention to surrender to police following their arrival, police say. Officers found Lovepreet, detained him and found him in possession of a semi-automatic firearm. 28-year-old Lovepreet Singh (image provided by Fresno Police) According to police, back at the restaurant officers found Harmanpreet lying in the parking lot with a gunshot wound to his upper body. EMS personnel transported him to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Police say homicide detectives responded to the scene and learned that Lovepreet and Harmanpreet, both from Modesto, knew each other and were attending a celebration at the restaurant. According to police, witnesses reported that Lovepreet pulled out a handgun and shot Harmanpreet in the upper body in the parking lot. As Lovepreet fled the scene, he fired at another victim but missed. Loverpreet was booked into the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of homicide and attempted homicide.
