ESCONDIDO, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- The name of the Escondido Police officer who was involved in a shooting last week has been released by the San Diego Police Department. According to SDPD, the incident began after Escondido Police received a call regarding a man brandishing a gun at the transit center located at 700 W. Valley Pkwy. around 7:38 p.m. last Wednesday. Several dead after small plane goes down on Catalina Island When officers arrived and attempted to contact the man, SDPD said he ran eastbound across Quince Street onto a bike path, leading officers to chase him on foot. An officer commanded the suspect to stop and drop the items he was holding in his hands, according to SDPD. After running about a hundred feet down the bike path, police said the man suddenly turned toward the officer with what appeared to be a gun, prompting the Escondido officer to fire his duty weapon multiple times. On Wednesday, SDPD identified the officer who fired his weapon at Rosales as Officer Corey Montross. Montross has been employed by Escondido Police for about three years and is assigned to patrol. SDPD said he was wearing a body camera at the time of the pursuit and shooting. A revolver-style BB gun was found near where the suspect fell to the ground, SDPD added. Suspect in custody after SWAT standoff in North County After the incident, the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Antonio Rosales, was taken to the hospital by paramedics, according to police. Rosales is expected to be arraigned on a felony count of resisting arrest, according to police. Detectives are coordinating with the District Attorney’s office on the possibility of conducting an arraignment at the hospital while he is being treated for his injuries.
