WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – President Joe Biden called false claims made by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) about the federal government controlling the weather “ridiculous.” During remarks ahead of a briefing on Hurricane Milton at the White House on Wednesday, President Biden once again called recent misinformation following Hurricane Helene harmful. “I want to be clear about something. For the last few weeks, there’s been a reckless, irresponsible and relentless promotion of disinformation and outright lies that are disturbing people,” Biden said. “It’s harmful to those who need help the most.” Over the last week, conspiracy theories surrounding Hurricane Helene have been amplified by several Republicans, including Greene who has posted about the weather being manufactured by humans.  Last week, Greene wrote on X, “yes they can control the weather. It’s ridiculous for anyone to lie and say it can’t be done.” President Biden called out Greene for spreading misinformation ahead of Hurricane Milton’s expected landfall in Florida. “Marjorie Taylor Greene, a congressman from Georgia, is now saying the federal government is literally controlling the weather,” Biden said. “It’s beyond ridiculous. It’s got to stop.” The president also called out former President Donald Trump for leading the “onslaught of lies” following Hurricane Helene.  “In moments like this there are no red or blue states. There’s one United States of America where neighbors are helping neighbors. Volunteers and first responders are risking everything including their own lives to help their fellow Americans,” Biden said. FEMA has created a “Hurricane Rumor Response” page in an effort to debunk rumors spreading in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. President Biden is set to give remarks on Hurricane Milton from the White House Wednesday evening at 5:30 p.m. ET.
