(KRON) -- The Oakland Police Department is investigating a death that occurred Tuesday on School Street as a homicide. Officers responded to a residence on the 2900 block of School Street near Interstate 580 just after 6:45 p.m. to conduct a welfare check. San Jose police union director fired for opioid smuggling arrest pleads guilty Officers arrived at the scene and located someone who had sustained injuries and was unresponsive. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. OPD Homicide Section investigators responded to conduct a follow-up investigation. The victim's identity, police said, is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. Police describe the investigation as ongoing.
