CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - Hurricane Milton is making its way to Florida and it has already led to several flight cancellations across the country..disrupting thousands of travel plans. This is as many residents were advised to evacuate due to life-threatening impacts of high winds and a storm surge of up to 15 feet in areas that are prone to flooding. This Category 4 storm will hit Florida with winds between 130 and 156 miles per hour. "We see that when a storm impacts one place there is a domino effect with all the flights that would be coming into and out of that location. Over 1,800 flights are canceled and all of the major airports in Florida that are going to be most impacted by this storm are closed," said Jillian Young with AAA Northeast. Flights to five locations in Florida including Tampa, Fort Myers, and Orlando have already been canceled. Those locations have some of the most popular airports in the country. Flights were also canceled in Sarasota, Fort Myers, and West Palm Beach. According to AAA Northeast, some airlines have been issuing waivers to allow travelers to change their tickets at no extra charge, even if they have basic economy fair. Gail Rinaldi from Enfield was at Bradley Airport this morning and she told 22News that Florida residents will be in her prayers. "It's devastating because three weeks ago there was another one. I really hope everyone is going to be safe and hopefully everyone will reach their destination," said Rinaldi.
