(WWLP) - Historic Deerfield is inviting thrill-seekers and history enthusiasts to experience its eerie past this October with a series of ghost walks and spine-tingling events that explore the haunted corners of this centuries-old village. Starting inside the historic Hall Tavern, participants will hear haunting tales before venturing out under the moonlit sky to reportedly haunted spots. These ghost walks are set for October 11, 12, 18, 19, 25, and 26, all beginning at 7 p.m. In addition to the ghost walks, New England folklore expert Dennis Picard will present A Peddler's Pack of Eerie Tales from the Hill and Valley on October 12 at 2 p.m. Picard will share legendary stories of witches, vampires, and other supernatural occurrences, bringing to life the region's rich history of ghostly folklore. For those looking to delve into the final resting places of Deerfield's earliest inhabitants, Guided Tours of the Old Burying Ground will take place on October 12, 19, and 26 at 3 p.m. These tours will explore the historic cemetery and its ancient gravestones, offering insights into the lives of those long gone. On October 26, Historic Deerfield will host a full day of gravestone-themed events, including a gravestone carving demonstration from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., a lecture on the town’s graveyards at 11:00 a.m., and guided tours of gravestone art at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Throughout the season, visitors can also enjoy demonstrations of traditional trades such as woodworking, pottery, and tinsmithing, showcasing the craftsmanship that shaped early American life.
