PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — October is National Seafood Month, and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) has resources available to help locals and tourists alike take advantage of the state's extensive selection of fresh seafood. The DEM has teamed up with the Rhode Island Seafood Marketing Collaborative to create a local seafood finder. The online tool lists more than 118 restaurants, seafood markets, grocers and direct sellers offering up fresh catches. The Rhode Island Seafood Finder also features an events calendar, tips for cooking and recipes. DEM Director Terry Gray said the seafood finder allows everyone the opportunity to enjoy a tasty meal while also supporting local businesses. “From calamari to oysters to various species of finfish, Rhode Island seafood is already known around the world," Gray said. "What we’re trying to do is jolt interest in and demand for our seafood right here in Rhode Island." Rhode Island fisheries and seafood have a big impact on the economy making up more than 9,000 jobs in 2022, according the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Gray hopes the collaborative will also assist seafood lovers with finding the freshest catches year-round. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox.
