WEST WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — The Rhode Island Parrot Rescue is coming to the aid of fellow exotic bird shelters in Florida that are bracing for the impacts of Hurricane Milton. Corrie Butler, director of the exotic bird rescue, told 12 News Wednesday that she gets emotional thinking about the impending storm. "I think it's devastating," Butler said. "We just want to do whatever we can to help from afar." The Rhode Island Parrot Rescue is collecting donations for Floridian shelters in anticipation of supplies running short after the storm hits. (Ryan Welch/WPRI-TV) The West Warwick rescue is seeking cleaning supplies, parrot food and medical supplies, as well as toys an enrichment items. While donations can be dropped off at the rescue, there are also collection sites at D. Palmieri's Bakery in Johnston and Dogtopia in Warwick. Those who wish to donate but do not have time to drop items off can do so by browsing the rescue's Amazon Wishlist. By ordering from the wishlist, the items will be shipped directly to the rescue. There's currently no cutoff on when the rescue will stop accepting donations. Butler said that will be dependent on the storm. The Rhode Island Parrot Rescue is also prepared to foster birds from down south if needed. NEXT: Dire warnings to flee as Hurricane Milton begins to lash Florida Close Thanks for signing up!
