Mental care professionals at the Oakland facility will walk out if UPMC does not meet union contract proposals meant to address severe understaffing and lack of resources.
UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital nurses cite understaffing, lack of resources, and "horrendous working conditions" as the main reasons for authorizing a strike. A press release from the SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania union states that on Oct. 7, Western Psych nurses "voted unanimously to authorize a strike."
