MUNCIE, Ind. — The Muncie Police Department is investigating a serious injury crash that occurred Tuesday, which they said was caused by a 14-year-old boy driving a stolen vehicle. According to MPD, officers were called to the intersection of E. 18th St and S. Madison St. on the report of a crash between two vehicles. Upon arrival, officers found three critically injured people: a 52-year-old woman (the sole occupant of her vehicle), and a 14-year-old male and 18-year-old female in the other vehicle. MPD said they discovered that the 14-year-old male had stolen the car he was driving earlier that day. Per police, the teenager battered the vehicle's owner, who was later transferred to an area hospital for treatment. Now, that 14-year-old is in custody and faces the following preliminary charges: Robbery (Level 5 Felony) Aggravated battery (Level 3 Felony) Auto theft (Level 6 Felony) Criminal recklessness resulting in catastrophic injury (Level 5 Felony) Disregarding a traffic control device resulting in injury (Level 5 Felony) Strangulation (Level 6 Felony) Leaving the scene of a crash (Class B Misdemeanor) Reckless driving causing bodily injury (Class A Misdemeanor) Operating a vehicle without ever receiving a license (Class C Misdemeanor) MPD has not released the name of the suspect nor provided a mugshot.
