GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — It’s been less than a week since City of Greensboro leaders announced the new city manager as Nathaniel “Trey” Davis. He shared his vision for the city. “I've seen Greensboro grow ... I've seen that there's opportunity here like never before,” Davis said. Davis has been with the City of Greensboro for more than 20 years now. Davis is from Butner, North Carolina, and worked as a police officer in 1996 in Creedmoor before joining the Greensboro Police Department in 2002. He stepped into his role as assistant city manager in 2019. Davis says bringing this experience into his new role as city manager will be a great asset. “I feel tremendously fortunate stepping into this role. There are folks that have been leading in our city ahead of me that have done great work. So there are a number of things that I'll be able to continue on,” Davis said. One of his priorities is economic development. He wants to support existing businesses and welcome new ones to the city. Other priorities include further improvements to public safety and infrastructure. “I want to make sure that we're creating opportunities for all to be successful while doing that,” Davis said. “We want to make sure that we continue our efforts to be the safest city in our area. FOX8 asked specifically about areas city leaders have been emphasizing in recent years like east Greensboro and Randleman Road. Davis said these are areas the city will continue to prioritize. He said while there's been a decrease in homicides in the city, violent crime isn’t his only focus for public safety. "Our police department and our transportation department are focusing in areas that that we hear people often tell us that are their highest concerns, and that's the area of traffic,” Davis said. He's proud of the city's neighborhood traffic safety program and said efforts are underway to try and bring back the red-light camera program. Davis says listening to people is something he's always prioritized and will continue to do so in his new position.  “This ... is a new role, but I'm still me. I'm still who I am, and I want people to know that. So I plan to go into our community, have conversations and ... meetings. I've had a number of invites, and I've filled up my calendar already to accommodate those invites. I'm excited,” Davis said. Davis said he's already busy at work. In the next couple of months, the city hopes to announce innovative partnerships with one of the areas they are focusing on, which is housing. He said another area of focus is the city’s effort to partner with other areas outside of the city to provide water and sewer, hoping it will spark economic development not only in Greensboro but the region.
