OSHKOSH, Wis. (WFRV) — The Vietnam Traveling Wall has returned to Oshkosh at the Sunnyview Expo Center. It was given an aerial escort by a Vietnam Huey helicopter, accompanied by American Legion riders, as well as local police and fire departments. The wall stands 8 feet tall and stretches 360 feet long, replicating the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C., with the same 58,300 names inscribed on it. This traveling wall provides an opportunity for people to experience this piece of history without having to visit D.C. “It’s about learning about the sacrifices that all of our brothers, uncles, fathers, and everyone made. They gave the ultimate sacrifice so that we could live the life we do today,” said Rick Helms, commander of Sons of the American Legion Squadron 70. The Vietnam Traveling Wall will be on display until Sunday and can be viewed at no cost.
