FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) -- After being closed for months following an initial soft opening in April, Summit City Climbing Co. hopes its return to business will be permanent. The company announced on Facebook that it would be reopening Thursday after having a "moving party" Wednesday afternoon to prepare. Alex Kenny, a helper during the moving party who bought a membership to Summit City Climbing Co. during its initial run, said he is happy to see the climbing gym will be available again. "A friend of mine years back introduced me to climbing, and it's really hard to find a lot of outdoor places -- especially in Fort Wayne and northeast Indiana -- to go climbing, so it's really nice to have somewhere to do that," Kenny said. Summit City Climbing Co., which represents the first climbing gym in Fort Wayne, spent months jumping through inspections and plans with state and county officials in order to tweak the building to meet their standards. Although the experience proved to be frustrating, co-owner Collin Jester told WANE 15 during the middle of the process in July that he appreciated the community's support and that the experience taught him a valuable lesson on being patient. “We’ve kind of had to experience that the hard way, but patience is so important,” Jester said in July. “Especially with this big of a project [and] especially if we want to do it right and want to provide something this big to the city. It doesn’t happen overnight.” Summit City Climbing Co. is located at 1331 E. Berry St. just east of downtown Fort Wayne.
