Columbia, S.C. (WOLO)–  Officials with the governor’s office say Gov. Henry McMaster has authorized the deployment of SC National Guard Soldiers in response to Hurricane Milton. “Hurricane Helene reminded us of the power of neighbors helping neighbors, and South Carolina is ready to stand with Florida in their time of need,” said Governor Henry McMaster. “The National Guard resources being deployed will not interfere with our own recovery efforts from Hurricane Helene and will still allow for our National Guard to deploy in South Carolina to prepare for potential impacts from Hurricane Milton.” Officials say 70 soldiers, 30 high-water vehicles, and 2 support vehicles from the 105st Transportation Company in Varnville will be part of the deployment. In addition the Guard along with SC State Fire are sending a Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team. More than 60 soldiers with the 678th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, based in Eastover, will also head to Florida. Officials say Guard soldiers will also continue assisting in the Hurricane Helene recovery effort within South Carolina.       Categories: Local News, News, State
