MINOT, ND (KXNET) — It's the first time in 50 years that a new high school has opened its doors in one city.
On Wednesday, Minot North High School leaders officially celebrated that milestone, with an open house and ribbon cutting.
Several people helped with the vision of bringing the new high school campus to the Magic City. Some of them were there, reflecting on the journey. That includes Senator John Hoeven.
The school has around 80 classrooms between its academic area and career technical education building.

There are also two gyms, a wrestling gym, a competition sized swimming pool, and a meat lab where students can learn how to cook locally produced meat.
Leaders say these amenities are helping bring more opportunities to the city, as well as all of North Dakota.
"Senator Hoeven mentioned it: opportunities," said Harlan Johnson, the principal at Minot North High School. "We have two of everything now, two basketball teams, two football teams, two choirs, two plays, all those different things. I mean we've got 60-something kids out for football, 75 out for volleyball, cross country, all those different things. Our kids just get so many more opportunities to be in the extracurriculars and co-curriculars."
This is the first time the community was welcomed into the school for a full tour.
