METAIRIE, La. (BRPROUD) — When the Saints named quarterback Spencer Rattler the starter for Week 6 with quarterback Derek Carr out with an oblique injury, he became the fifth rookie to be named a starter this season in the NFL. Thankfully for him, Saints head coach Dennis Allen has experience in starting a rookie at quarterback. Back in 2014, when Allen was the head coach of the Raiders, he started a rookie quarterback, Carr. Allen said he expects to have some challenges with a rookie under center but intends to let Rattler just go out and play.  “I think you've got to let the guy go in there and play," Allen said. "You know what I mean? I mean, we're not going into this game saying, you know, you make a mistake and we're going to pull you. I mean, he's going in to play. He's going to start. He's going to lead the team. I think we go from there. Patrick Mahomes throws for 331 yards, Derek Carr hurt as Chiefs shut down Saints for 26-13 victory "The biggest thing, you don't want to go into this thing like it's this major ordeal," Allen said. "He's next man up, get an opportunity to go in and play. Go play and have fun. Do what you've been trained to do. I think sometimes you can make too big a deal of it and create more of an issue than you really need to. So, we'll go through the things that he needs to know. We'll get him prepared and then we'll let him go out there and play."  Latest News Finding gas in Florida after Milton will be a challenge, analyst says Video: Wind tears roof off Tropicana Field, home of the Rays 5 takeaways from the Arizona Senate debate Video: Hurricane Milton sucks water out of Tampa Bay 'Multiple fatalities' at senior community after tornado outbreak in Florida: reports
