4 Injured, 21-Year-Old Man Charged after Multi-Vehicle DUI Collision near 91st Avenue TOLLESON, AZ (October 9, 2024) – Rafael Sapien III was arrested Sunday, and four others sustained injuries in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 10. First responders arrived to the scene near 91st Avenue around 8:00 a.m., on October 6th. According to investigators, 21-year-old Sapien III was driving a maroon Chevrolet pickup-truck in the wrong direction on the freeway, leading to a head-on collision with a gray Dodge SUV. Paramedics transported all four occupants of the SUV, as well as Sapien III, to a nearby hospital for treatment. After receiving medical care, Sapien III was arrested around 12:00 p.m. on Sunday. He was later booked into the Maricopa County jail on charges including four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated DUI. No further information has been released at this time, and the investigation into the wrong-way crash on Interstate 10 is ongoing.
