Another chilly night/early morning has turned into a sunny, comfortable afternoon across the DMV as this beautiful stretch rolls into the back half of the week. Abundant sunshine will push high temperatures into the upper 60s to mid-70s, with warmer readings found to the south and around DC. One minor annoyance has returned in the form of breezy winds. Steady 10-20 mph winds, with gusts up to 25-30 mph, can be expected through the end of the day. The return of the wind is due to a front pushing down from the north tonight, pushing in a more substantial surge of colder air. Readings tonight will get even chillier than recent nights, with low to mid-40s to the east and upper 30s more common to the west. Hurricane Milton remains the big story away from home as it bears down on Florida. The storm is now Category 4, but it's already been producing significant severe weather and torrential rain across the state, with conditions expected to deteriorate even more before landfall tonight. Life-threatening storm surge, extreme winds, excessive rain, and severe weather will impact the entire Florida Peninsula through Thursday. No direct impacts are expected here in the DMV as the front and surge of colder air arriving tonight will steer Milton back out over open water. After this latest burst of colder air, Thursday and Friday will see chilly conditions. High temperatures will remain in the 60s, and overnight lows will stay in the 30s and 40s. Frost will be possible along and west of I-81 Thursday night as we experience the coldest temperatures and calmest winds of the week. As high pressure shifts south for the weekend, we'll warm up nicely for Saturday and Sunday. A weak disturbance could bring a few spotty showers for the end of the weekend, but precipitation chances remain low with this system. Yet another cold air surge is likely behind this system, with afternoon highs down into the 50s and widespread overnight lows in the 30s early next week. Have a great rest of your Wednesday! 7-Day Forecast: Today: Mostly sunny and a bit breezy. Winds: WNW 10-20 mph, High: 74 (65-75) Tonight: Mostly clear with patchy mountain frost.
