ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – The driver of the car that hit and killed Spencerport graduate and 18-year-old Maria Eichas has been sentenced to prison following a guilty plea in court Wednesday. Alexander Hackett, age 33, pleaded guilty to over a dozen counts in an indictment, the most serious charge being Aggravated Vehicular Homicide. ‘Life cut too tragically short:’ Calling hours take place for former Spencerport student killed in Parma crash In early June, Hackett, admitted to having at least four beers before driving when he crashed into the Eichas' car. She was parked on the side of Burritt Road in Parma when the crash sent her car into a tree. Eichas died at the scene. A passenger was hospitalized as well. Former Spencerport student dies in Parma crash, driver charged In court Wednesday, Hackett turned and spoke directly to her parents, apologizing. "There's nothing I can say that is ever going to change this," Hackett said. Hackett will spend 6 to 18 years in State Prison for sentencing as a result of this plea.
