SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Crews worked to put out a fire in Springfield on Wednesday morning. Officals remind residents the importance of working smoke alarms According to the Springfield Fire Department, a 911 call was received at around 6:31 a.m. for a reported fire at 40 Ashley Street. Upon arrival, crews found the fire in the floor joists between the second and third floors. The fire was put out and no injuries were reported. MAP: Ashley Street in Springfield The arson and bomb squad determined the cause was due to an electrical malfunction. The Red Cross is assisting four residents who are now without a home.
