Trenton Engel was released from a Lincoln hospital and later arrested on several felony charges, including assault on an officer and flight to avoid arrest. The pursuit started shortly after noon on Tuesday, when Lancaster County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the U-Save Pharmacy in Waverly about a domestic disturbance. Deputies showed up and found a truck that was involved in the incident and tried to pull it over. According to Chief Deputy Ben Houchin, the truck took off and deputies, along with troopers from the Nebraska State Patrol, pursued it until Engel spun out at Highway 6 and Amberly Road.  Engel allegedly started ramming into patrol vehicles, nearly running over a trooper who narrowly escaped getting back into his cruiser. “(Engel) is very dangerous. He doesn’t care about other people’s safety,” Houchin told reporters on Wednesday. Nebraska State Patrol Major Jeff Wilcynski said a trooper fired a single shot from his gun but it didn’t hit Engel. Instead, it hit his truck. The trooper has been put on administrative leave while the patrol does an internal review. Deputies and troopers used foam projectiles and pepper balls to stop Engel, who was checked out at a Lincoln hospital for minor injuries before he was released and taken to jail. Houchin says it could have been worse. “We’re just glad it turned out that no citizens were injured and no law enforcement was injured,” Houchin said. Lincoln Police have their criminal investigations unit is handling this case. They are also looking into an incident that was classified as an assault or disturbance at a Lincoln home early Tuesday morning that may be linked to Engel. “Our officers were called out to a call for service that was related to this individual,” Capt. Miller said. “Certainly we’re working with the State Patrol and Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office to piece together all of those investigations.” Engel was apparently responsible for a hostage and standoff situation in Pleasant Dale on Sept. 23 and the victim in that incident was the same woman inside the U-Save Pharmacy in Waverly on Tuesday.
